HTML clipboardTwo West Marin
artists show contrasting approaches to the same subject – waves. Michael
Knowlton, Stinson Beach artist and surfer, paints large oils on canvas with
brilliantly colored images from the insides of the waves. Point Reyes Station
artist Nancy Stein walks the beach. She creates elegant pastels and
etchings from her views of the waves crashing against the beaches of West Marin.
NancyStein says “What I seek in painting waves
is something that the human being knows but the camera lens misses It has
something to do with movement and the sheer brevity of the form. Walking by the
sea will transform a bad mood. We delight in the million shades of gray – the
wave, a shape shifter silvered with olive and lavender – a flash of white in a
night ocean. At the same time we feel the ocean’s fierceness and know that the
sea has it’s own imperatives which remain a mystery. In some way, the wave is
our kin, riding it’s brief individuality out in a great ocean that is very close
to the fluid in our veins.
Michael Knowlton is a versatile artist whose paintings
document the interests and issues of time and place. The exhibition of wave
paintings is one aspect of a large body of mature work. He recently showed his
satiric anti-war paintings at Zero One Gallery in Los Angeles.
The artists will be present at a reception open to the public
on July 12th from 5pm to 7pm

"GasHole" is a new documentary film about the
history of Oil prices and the
future of alternative fuels.
The film, narrated by Peter Gallagher, features interviews with a wide range of
viewpoints from US Department of Energy Officials, Congressional leaders both
Democrat and Republican, Alternative Fuel Producers, Alternative Fuel Consumers
(such as actor Joshua Jackson), Professors of Economics and Psychology and
more...
Directed by Jeremy Wagener & Scott D. Roberts, the film takes a wide, yet
detailed examination of our dependence on foreign supplies of Oil.
What are the causes that led from America turning from a leading exporter of oil
to the world's largest importer? What are the economic and sociological forces
that have contributed to that change and impede its solution?
The film examines many different potential solutions to our oil dependence.
Starting with claims of buried technology that dramatically improves gas
mileage, to navigating bureaucratic governmental roadblocks, to evaluating
different alternative fuels that are technologically available now, to
questioning the American Consumer's reluctance to embrace alternatives.
If you buy gas, you should see this movie!

Compelling, meticulously accurate, poignant… First-person stories from the election trenches paint a chilling picture of problems affecting election outcomes, "glitches" and "irregularities" which cannot be explained away as random errors.
We all need to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible about our electoral system – before it is too late. ______________________
